Holiday Stress

The holiday season is meant to be a joyful time and yet, it can also me one of the most stressful times of the year.
Here are some of the causes of that stress

  • Financial pressure
  • Gift-giving
  • Family gatherings
  • Lack of time
  • Family conflict
  • Grief and loss
  • Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)

Here are some tips to help you manage holiday stress:

Set realistic expectations: Don’t expect perfection and remember that no holiday gathering is perfect.

Take breaks: Step away from the situation, go for a walk, or do some deep breathing.

Practice gratitude: Say thank you for what’s good in your life.

Stay healthy: Eat healthy snacks and stay hydrated.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness can help reduce stress by training you to be aware and present in the moment, without judgment or interpretation. Research shows that mindfulness can improve mental health, lower blood pressure, and reduce anxiety. It can also help you pay attention better and regulate your emotions.

Here are some ways to practice mindfulness:

  • Mindful breathing –Focus on your breath without trying to change it. You can try taking three mindful breaths in moments of difficulty.
  • Body scan – While lying down or sitting, focus on each part of your body, noticing sensations without reacting to them.
  • Mindful eating – Pay attention to the sensations of smelling, tasting, chewing, and swallowing food.
  • Mindful movement – Pay attention to your breathing, body movements, and surroundings while walking or rolling. You can also practice mindfulness while doing yoga.
  • Meditative walking – Reconnect with the world around you and disconnect from technology.
  • Hiking or meditative walking

Reconnect with the world around you and disconnect from technology.
